BTS Attack on Bangtan Lyrics

Intro: SUGA, All

Refrain: RM, SUGA, j-hope, RM/SUGA/j-hope, (All)

Verse 1: RM, j-hope
인기 역시 용감하게 ge-ge-get it

Pre-Chorus: Jimin & Jin, Jimin & V, RM

Chorus: All, RM, Jung Kook, Jimin, RM/SUGA/j-hope
‘Cause we got fire, fire, fire
Get higher, higher, higher

Post-Chorus: All, RM, Jung Kook, RM/SUGA/j-hope
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la (Turn up)
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la (Turn up)
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la

Verse 2: Jung Kook, Jimin, SUGA
No More Dream
(I’m sorry, man)
What, what more can I say?
(Woo)
Can’t nobody hold me down
(What?)
What?)

Pre-Chorus: Jimin & Jin, Jimin & V, RM

Chorus: All, RM, Jung Kook, Jimin
‘Cause we got fire, fire, fire
Get higher, higher, higher

Bridge: Jung Kook
Woah, woah

Chorus: All, RM, Jung Kook, Jimin, RM/SUGA/j-hope
(Yeah)
‘Cause we got fire, fire, fire
Get higher, higher, higher

Refrain: RM, SUGA, j-hope, RM/SUGA/j-hope, (All)

BTS — “Attack on Bangtan” — English Translation

Intro: SUGA, All
But what would happen if BTS charged forward?
B-T-S

Refrain: RM, SUGA, j-hope, RM/SUGA/j-hope, All
Charge forward like B (B) T (T) S
Charge forward like B (B) T (T) S
Charge forward like B (B) T (T) S
Charge forward like B (B) T (T) S
Charge forward, brave, right?

Verse 1: RM, j-hope
The fearless BTS
Even our popularity is fearless, ge-ge-get it
I’m Rap Monster, I sweep away
All those washed-up rappers lying around, effortlessly be-be-beat it
My lyrics are absolutely inspired
24/7, I’m always good
Those kids with nothing to offer and nothing cool about them
Are making a spectacle of themselves again today
My two feet honk their horns for everyone to hear
My declaration to this scene, my charge into the music industry
Watch my first time at bat—I hit a home run
If you’re not confident, put down the bat
Onstage, I shoot wherever I feel like, however I want
And the crowd’s cheers still fill my ears
Yeah, I’m Kang Baek-ho onstage
I’ve proven it all—the mic just gave me an assist

Pre-Chorus: Jimin & Jin, Jimin & V, RM
Is everyone ready to go crazy? Ready to jump with all your might?
Tighten up your core and breathe from deep within
Is everyone ready to go crazy? Ready to jump with all your might?
Then scream from this moment on

Chorus: All, RM, Jung Kook, Jimin, RM/SUGA/j-hope
Who are we? Attack on BTS
Who are we? We swallow everything without fear
‘Cause we got fire, fire, fire
Get higher, higher, higher
If you don’t know us, you’d better get it straight
Who are we? (Who?) Who? (Who?) Attack on BTS

Post-Chorus: All, RM, Jung Kook, RM/SUGA/j-hope
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la (Turn up)
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la (Turn up)
We swallow up your heart
I’m here, so let it be known
La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la
Who are we? (Who?) Who? (Who?) Attack on BTS

Verse 2: Jung Kook, Jimin, SUGA
The moment our music starts
I lose my mind and raise hell (Ah)
Our style is No More Dream
Onstage, we step over our seniors’ backs (I’m sorry, man)
What, what more can I say?
From our debut until now, we’ve kept climbing
It’s only a matter of time before we claim the summit
The first domino knocks down the whole block
Yeah, knock it down (Yeah), in the blink of an eye (Woo)
We seize everyone’s ears onstage (Woo, oh)
This feast of my stylish rap
Once you get a taste, it leaves you gasping (No)
You’re completely burning up inside (Ha)
Can’t nobody hold me down
Okay, over a four-four beat, I’m always (What?)
Tearing up the stage in Boy In Luv style (What? What?)

Chorus: All, RM, Jung Kook, Jimin
Who are we? Attack on BTS
Who are we? We swallow everything without fear
‘Cause we got fire, fire, fire
Get higher, higher, higher
If you don’t know us, you’d better get it straight

Bridge: Jung Kook
The moment I step onto the stage (The moment, the moment)
I can feel your cheers (Feel them, woah, woah)
Please stay right there forever, just as you are
Even if I died like this
I wouldn’t have any regrets
Woah, woah

Chorus: All, RM, Jung Kook, Jimin, RM/SUGA/j-hope
Who are we? Attack on BTS (Yeah)
Who are we? We swallow everything without fear (‘Cause we got)
‘Cause we got fire, fire, fire
Get higher, higher, higher
If you don’t know us, you’d better get it straight

Fun Facts About BTS’s Attack on Bangtan

Now for the part we love: behind the scenes! “Attack on Bangtan” (Jingyeogui Bangtan in the original) was released on September 11, 2013, as part of their first mini album, O!RUL8,2?.

One of the coolest (but not surprising) things is that SUGA was actively involved in writing it. Back then, they were still trying to prove themselves in an industry that didn’t give much credit to groups from small companies. The title is a direct reference to the anime “Attack on Titan” (Shingeki no Kyojin), which was huge at the time — you can watch it on Crunchyroll today. The idea was to show that BTS was “advancing” to conquer the world, just like the titans advanced in the anime (but in a much cooler, less scary way, of course 🙊).

BTS Attack on Bangtan Lyrics Analysis: What Did They Really Mean?

Before diving in, let me make a deal with you: analyzing a song isn’t sitting down and saying “I think it’s this, and that’s it”. If it were, anyone could do it 😅. But it isn’t an exact science with an answer key at the end either. When I analyze a song, I don’t pull things out of thin air. I look at:

  • the semantics of the words (why did they choose exactly this term and not another?).
  • the historical context of the time.
  • the moment in BTS’s career.
  • interviews and public statements.
  • the album concept.
  • the cultural references hidden in there.
  • the energy of the production.
  • and above all their history, which in the case of “Attack on Bangtan” is everything.

I’ve followed BTS for more than 11 years. That gives me a nice overview of their journey, from the raw, competitive, almost “combative” early phases to the artistic maturity that came later. It doesn’t make me the owner of the truth, but it gives me good context. So this isn’t “the official, definitive meaning”. It’s one possible reading among many. If you disagree with me somewhere, great — it means the song is very much alive.

What the song really says about who they wanted to be

“Attack on Bangtan” isn’t just an upbeat concert song. It’s practically a document: a record of what Bangtan thought of itself in 2013, when they still had everything to prove and zero problem saying it out loud, mic in hand and looking you in the eye.

The title alone is a statement before a single note plays. “Attack on Titan”, Hajime Isayama’s anime, uses the advance as the ultimate symbol of courage, of facing something much bigger than you with whatever you have. The soldiers in the anime literally throw themselves toward danger shouting to advance. The boys took that symbol, stuck their own name on it and ran with it. Definitely not a coincidence — a choice, and one with personality.

The question that opens everything

The song opens by asking what would happen if Bangtan Sonyeondan attacked, in a little voice that borders on comic, almost mocking. It isn’t waiting for an answer; it’s planting an idea: imagine what happens when we decide to attack for real. The tone is provocative, with a touch of “get ready, darling”. Before any rap verse, before any beat, the boys put the listener in a clear position: you’re about to see something, and it would be a good idea to pay attention.

Rap as a battlefield

Here begins what in rap is called an indirect diss track: basically an attack without naming names, the kind everyone knows who it’s about but nobody can sue over. If you’ve followed the back-and-forth between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, you know what I mean.

The narrator calls himself a rap monster sweeping away the washed-up rappers lying around. The target is those “outdated” rappers — a direct jab at the Korean music scene of the time, which saw BTS, especially coming from a small label, as people who didn’t deserve to be in the game. Their answer: not only claiming they deserved it, but saying they’d sweep everyone away. Which, well… they did. With elegance. Or almost 😅.

Next, the lyrics describe his writing as if he were possessed, and brag about being good 24/7. The writing is described as something coming from beyond conscious effort, almost an altered state. That’s obviously not modesty, but it isn’t empty arrogance either. It’s the description of someone who feels what they do is natural, inevitable, impossible to hold back. And given what happened next, it’s hard to argue, right?

A declaration of war with a baseball twist

The song talks about a declaration of war on the music industry and uses a very precise baseball metaphor: hitting a home run on the very first at-bat, and telling anyone without confidence to put the bat down. A home run is the perfect hit, the one that settles the game. The boys say their first swing was already the decisive one. And the final warning is an extremely polite way of saying: get out of the way.

Then comes another cool reference: on stage, he says he’s like Kang Baek-ho — the protagonist of the classic sports manga “Slam Dunk” (known in Japan as Hanamichi Sakuragi), the rookie who becomes a basketball star through sheer confidence and nerve. The idea of the mic being “just support” echoes one of the manga’s most famous lines, about the left hand only supporting the shot. In other words: on his own turf, he’s the star.

Instructions for BTS

The pre-chorus does something few people notice: it gives instructions to the body. It isn’t just “sing with me”, it’s “get your body ready for this”: are you ready to go crazy, ready to jump with all your strength, tense your core, take a deep, focused breath. A Bangtan show described as an almost athletic experience, which makes total sense when you watch any of their performances. It’s basically a workout with a much better soundtrack.

Who are you, anyway?

The main chorus is the heart of the song: “who are we?”, answered with the advancing Bangtan that devours everything without fear, with fire and going higher and higher. The call-and-response structure mirrors exactly the ritual of the soldiers in “Attack on Titan”, where the commander asks and the soldiers answer in unison. It’s an army scene, a collective marching together and not stopping for anything — in other words, all of ARMY. The repetition works hypnotically, the kind of thing you shout at a concert without noticing you’ve been completely captured.

And the warning that, if you don’t know them yet, you’d better get to know them has an irony that aged beautifully. In 2013, most people really didn’t know them. It was practically a spoiler of the future said out loud. After all, “Attack on Bangtan” is practically the birth certificate of that “BTS paved the way” we love so much.

Stepping on the seniors’ backs (excuse me, of course)

Here the lyrics say their style is “No More Dream” and that, on stage, they step on their seniors’ backs — with a quick “I’m sorry, man” in parentheses. “No More Dream” was the title track of their debut, 2 COOL 4 SKOOL, released that same year. Quoting their own work in the lyrics is a way of saying: what we do is one thing, a unit with a beginning, a middle and an intention. And the “I’m sorry, man” is without a doubt the funniest moment of the song: they step on the veterans and apologize with the lightness of someone who isn’t apologizing at all. Classic.

Then comes the claim that, since debut, it’s only been up, that taking the top is just a matter of time, and that the first domino has already fallen. With less than a year of career, saying that would be an absurd level of arrogance for any rookie group, especially in K-pop, where everything is born and dies so fast. But in BTS’s case, it sounds more like prophecy. It’s the kind of line you reread years later and think: oh my loves, they knew.

A feast that leaves you breathless

The image of rap as a feast is used with a clear intention. A feast isn’t a quick snack; it’s an elaborate experience that takes time and attention. And the effect described — being left breathless, burning inside, nobody being able to hold him down — is almost that of something addictive. The boys describe their work as something that, once tasted, there’s no going back from. Looking at the size of the fandom today, they seem to have been right about that too.

The quietest moment of the song

This is the only moment in “Attack on Bangtan” where the tone truly changes. Amid so much adrenaline and provocation comes a verse that’s almost a whispered confession: the moment he steps on stage and feels the crowd’s cheers, asking them to stay there forever, saying he’d have no regrets even if he died like that. It isn’t teenage drama; it’s a group that gives itself completely. They see the stage as the place where everything makes sense, and the audience’s cheers as something they want to keep forever. And, well, so do we, because they’re incredible on stage.

On a 2013 album by a group just starting out, that verse weighs differently, especially knowing what came next. But even without that context, it breaks the rhythm of the song in a way you feel before you understand.

An ending that’s an order

The song ends the way it began, repeating the call to advance like Bangtan Sonyeondan — but the meaning is no longer the same. At the start it was practically an instruction, a wish. At the end, after everything that’s been said, it’s an established identity: you know who Bangtan Sonyeondan is and what it means to advance like them. The repetition isn’t songwriting laziness; it’s like a ritual, the kind of ending that makes you want to play the song again from the top. And now, in 2026, knowing the whole journey? It’s even better.

Must-See Attack on Bangtan Performances

You can’t talk about “Attack on Bangtan” without watching the boys in action, right? Here are some videos that are part of the fandom’s history:

M COUNTDOWN (2013):

M COUNTDOWN (2015):

M COUNTDOWN in LA (2016):

In the End, They Really Did Warn Us

Coming back to “Attack on Bangtan” today, after everything that happened, it almost makes you laugh. Not a mocking laugh, but the kind that thinks: my God, they were practically giving spoilers of their own career… While many people were still deciding whether to take the group seriously, they were already shouting about going higher with total conviction. And, well… they did.

What might have sounded like youthful exaggeration in 2013 now looks almost like a strategic plan. Every “who are we?” became a concrete answer in numbers, awards, sold-out stadiums and global headlines. Every “taking the top is just a matter of time” stopped being just a confident line and became a historical document. Sometimes the line between arrogance and vision is thin, and they crossed it naturally — even if, at the time, maybe they didn’t know it.

And let’s be honest, there’s something deliciously bold about a rookie group saying it will devour everything without fear. It wasn’t exactly the expected behavior for boys from a small company trying to survive in the industry. It was almost like walking into a room full of veterans, slapping the table and saying: excuse me, we’ll be taking the top. Politely, of course. In parentheses, with an “I’m sorry, man”.

Revisiting “Attack on Bangtan” today is like rewatching an old video of yourself promising to take over the world — except they really did. That raw, competitive, hungry energy is still with them, even after military service, disbandment rumors, hate, sensationalist media and even ARMYs who let go. And now everyone hears what they did with a different weight. It’s no longer a promise. It became a retrospective.

So if anyone still doubted what it meant to “advance like Bangtan Sonyeondan”, I think history answered well. They advanced. And we were there, watching the attack happen in real time. Few groups can say they warned us so clearly, and then… delivered.

Now I want to hear from you: when you listen to “Attack on Bangtan” today, what do you feel? Nostalgia? Pride in how much they’ve grown? Or that immediate urge to shout “BANG TAN SO NYEON DAN!” in the middle of the room? Tell me in the comments which part still gives you chills and how you see this Bangtan era looking back at everything that came after. 💜
