2026: the comeback with ARIRANG
With the seven together again and the album ARIRANG, the awards came back in style.
- SWIM at the top: the title track reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, BTS’s seventh song to top the chart.
- May 25 · American Music Awards: BTS opened the ceremony with Hooligan, live from Allegiant Stadium during the ARIRANG tour, the group’s first award show appearance in four years. They took Artist of the Year for the second time, Song of the Summer (SWIM) and Best Male K-Pop Artist.
- Jul 29 · Grammys: the seven announced they would not submit ARIRANG for the 2027 Grammys, saying they want their music to be heard for what it is, without division by region or language. The decision came just over a month after the Recording Academy announced a new Asian pop category.
- September · VMAs: Song of the Year with SWIM, Best K-Pop and Best Group. BTS became the first Asian group to win Song of the Year, and their fifth Best Group trophy made them the record holder in the category.
2022 to 2025: the seven in their solo careers
During military service and their solo careers, each of the seven made history too:
- RM: Favorite K-Pop Artist at the 2025 American Music Awards, the first Korean soloist awarded at the AMAs both as a group member and as a solo artist.
- Jin: Most Popular Artist (male) at the January 2026 Golden Disc Awards, with 19.7 million votes.
- SUGA: D-DAY, as Agust D, reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in 2023.
- j-hope: on July 31, 2022, he became the first South Korean artist to headline the main stage of a major American festival, Lollapalooza.
- Jimin: Like Crazy debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023, a first for a South Korean soloist.
- V: Layover debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in 2023, tying the record for the highest-charting Korean solo album.
- Jung Kook: Seven reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023.
2022: Butter at the Grammys
- Apr 3 · Grammys: performance of Butter, with the group’s second nomination.
- May 15 · Billboard Music Awards: three more awards, reaching 12 in their career.
- 2023 Grammys: three nominations at once, with My Universe (with Coldplay), the album Music of the Spheres and the Yet to Come music video.
2021: Artist of the Year in the United States
- Mar 14 · Grammys: solo performance of Dynamite at the ceremony.
- May 23 · Billboard Music Awards: four awards, including Top Duo/Group and Top Selling Song (Dynamite).
- Nov 21 · American Music Awards: Artist of the Year, the first Asian act to win the AMAs’ top prize, plus Favorite Pop Duo/Group and Favorite Pop Song (Butter).
- March: BTS was the world’s No. 1 artist of 2020 in the IFPI global ranking and received the first Brit Awards nomination for a Korean act.
- July: the seven were appointed Special Presidential Envoys of South Korea for Future Generations and Culture.
- Sep 2 · Guinness World Records: BTS joined the Hall of Fame of the 2022 edition, with 23 records.
2020: Dynamite and the first Grammy nomination
- Jan 26 · Grammys: first performance on the Grammy stage, in Old Town Road with Lil Nas X.
- Aug 30 · VMAs: live debut of Dynamite and four awards, including Best Group.
- September: Dynamite reaches No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the first song by a Korean artist to top the chart.
- November: Life Goes On also reached No. 1 on the Hot 100, the first song sung mostly in Korean to top it.
- Nov 24: BTS’s first Grammy nomination, with Dynamite for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
- December · MMA and MAMA: the grand prizes again, with Map of the Soul: 7 and Dynamite.
- December · TIME: BTS was named TIME’s Entertainer of the Year.
2019: the year of records
- Feb 10 · Grammys: BTS presented an award on stage, the first Korean group to do so.
- April · TIME 100: BTS made TIME magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
- May 1 · Billboard Music Awards: Top Duo/Group and Top Social Artist, with a performance of Boy With Luv alongside Halsey.
- Nov 24 · American Music Awards: three awards, including Tour of the Year.
- Nov 30 and Dec 4 · MMA and MAMA: the grand prizes of Artist, Album and Song of the Year, with Map of the Soul: Persona and Boy With Luv.
2018: a medal from the Korean government
- May 20 · Billboard Music Awards: Top Social Artist again and the first TV performance of FAKE LOVE.
- May · Billboard 200: Love Yourself: Tear debuted at No. 1, the first K-pop album to top the US album chart.
- Oct 24 · Order of Cultural Merit (Hwagwan): the youngest ever to receive the medal from the South Korean government.
- Dec 1 · Melon Music Awards: Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, with Love Yourself: Tear.
- Dec 14 · MAMA: Artist of the Year and Album of the Year.
- Grammys: Love Yourself: Tear was nominated for Best Recording Package (an award for the cover designers), the first time a BTS album appeared at the Grammys.
2017: arriving in the United States
- May 21 · Billboard Music Awards: Top Social Artist, the first Billboard award for a Korean group.
- Nov 19 · American Music Awards: BTS’s first performance on American TV, with DNA.
- Dec 1 · MAMA: Artist of the Year for the second time.
- Dec 2 · Melon Music Awards: Song of the Year, with Spring Day.
2016: the first daesang
A daesang is the grand prize at Korean award shows. In 2016, the first two arrived.
- Nov 19 · Melon Music Awards: Album of the Year, with The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever, BTS’s first daesang.
- Dec 2 · MAMA: Artist of the Year.
2015: the first music show win
With I NEED U, BTS won their first trophy on a Korean TV music show.
- May 5 · The Show (SBS MTV): first music show win, with I NEED U.

2014: the rookie awards
- Jan 16 · Golden Disc Awards: Rookie of the Year.

2013: the first trophy
A few months after their debut on June 13, the first award arrived.

How many awards has BTS won?

Has BTS ever won a Grammy?
Not yet. The group has received five Grammy nominations (2021, 2022 and three in 2023) and performed at the ceremony in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Will BTS compete at the 2027 Grammys?
No. On July 29, 2026, the group announced they decided not to submit the album ARIRANG for this year’s Grammys. The seven said they want their music to be heard and loved for what it is, without being divided by region or language. The announcement came just over a month after the Recording Academy announced new categories for 2027, including one for Asian pop. Grammy president Harvey Mason Jr. said he was sorry but understood and respected the decision.
What was BTS’s first daesang?
Album of the Year at the Melon Music Awards on November 19, 2016, with The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever.
How many BTS songs have reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100?
